Bourgogne-Franche-Comté Regional Tourism
On 1st January, 2016
Bourgogne merged with
Franche-Comté to
form the new
administrative region of
Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
Pre 2016 Regions
The region
of Franche-Comte has four departments: Doubs (25), Jura
(39), Haute-Saone
(70) and Territoire de Belfort (90).
Neighbouring regions are Alsace, Bourgogne, Champagne-Ardenne,
Lorraine and Rhone-Alpes.
The regional capital of
Franche-Comte is Besancon.
With 43% of its territory covered in forest, the Franche-Comte
region is the most wooded and greenest in France.
The Franche-Comte region is a land awash with cultural riches, which
are what give it its special soul.
Roman, Gaulish, Spanish and finally French, the region
has been fashioned by a history like no other.
