Osceola County, created in
1886, is named after the Indian leader, Osceola; who was furious about the way the
Seminoles were treated was determined to help maintain the Seminole heritage and homeland.
Osceola County has historically been known as a transportation
crossroad and is currently served by the Florida East Coast, Seaboard and Amtrak railroad
systems, Interstate 4 and U.S. Highways 17/92, 441, 192 and the Florida Turnpike.
The county seat of Osceola County is Kissimmee.
Osceola Heritage Park:
The first cattle to enter the North American continent traveled through the Kissimmee
Valley in what is now Osceola County. To honor this heritage, this 120-acre, multipurpose
complex is host to the county's annual activities; a venue that can accommodate a wide
variety of events for attendees from all over.
Kissimmee
The City of Kissimmee was originally a small trading post, on the
northern bank of Lake Tohopekaliga, known as the community of Allendale.
