Katherine
Visitors Guide:
Katherine is famous for the spectacular scenery in its gorges, the most famous of which
are found within Nitmiluk National Park. With its caves, towering rock walls that glow
with colour and ancient Aboriginal rock paintings, a cruise through one or many of these
magnificent gorges is a must for your visit.
Nitmiluk
National Park (Katherine Gorge):
The deep gorge carved through sandstone by the Katherine River is the central attraction
of this 292.008 hectare National Park. Upstream, the gorge widens into a broader valley
which forms the southern most portion of the Arnhem Land plateau. Swamplands cover the
plateau and are surrounded by dry sandy woodland. The best time to visit the park is May
to September.

Tennant Creek Tourism:
This is no theme park with a glossy image. It's rough, it's tough, it's hard, but the
intensity of its beauty will astound you. Born of the legends of the Aboriginal dreamtime
and forged by the cattleman and miners. This is Tennant Creek; Australia's last goldrush
town, where the two great northern highways meet.
